Bon Iver, the acclaimed indie-folk project led by Justin Vernon, has officially announced its fifth studio album, SABLE, fABLE. Scheduled for release on April 11, 2025, via Jagjaguwar, this marks Bon Iver’s first full-length project since 2019’s Grammy-nominated i,i. Fans have eagerly awaited new material, and the announcement signals an exciting new chapter in the band’s evolution.
The 12-track album builds on Bon Iver’s recent SABLE, EP, incorporating three previously released songs, “Things Behind Things Behind Things,” “S P E Y S I D E,” and “Awards Season.” In addition, SABLE, fABLE features collaborations with a stellar lineup of artists, including Dijon, Flock of Dimes, and Danielle Haim. The lead single, “Everything Is Peaceful Love,” will debut on February 14, 2025, with a music video directed by John Wilson, known for his acclaimed HBO series How To with John Wilson.
Production on SABLE, fABLE was helmed by Vernon alongside producer Jim-E Stack, who previously worked with Bon Iver on the SABLE, EP. The majority of the album was recorded at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin, which underwent renovations before the sessions began. According to Vernon, the album’s creative journey began in early 2022 when Stack and Danielle Haim joined him in the studio, sparking the inspiration for one of the key tracks, “If Only I Could Wait.”
A new Bon Iver is born?
Described as “Bon Iver’s next chapter: the epilogue,” SABLE, fABLE explores themes of love, renewal, and self-discovery. The album is said to be the band’s most radiant and lush production yet, blending folk roots with ambient and electronic elements. Early descriptions from those close to the project suggest a more personal and expansive sound, one that encapsulates Bon Iver’s signature emotive storytelling.
Fans have expressed their excitement across social media, with discussions on Reddit and music forums speculating about the album’s themes and significance within Bon Iver’s discography. Many are eager to see how Vernon builds upon the sonic textures explored in i,i and whether SABLE, fABLE signals a new creative direction for the band.
As Bon Iver embarks on this new musical chapter, listeners can expect an immersive and heartfelt experience that continues to push artistic boundaries.
