Dotan returns to his musical roots with his latest album, A Little Light in the Dark, released on October 25. This fourth studio album marks a period of personal growth and enlightenment for the singer-songwriter. Dotan shares that his music once emerged from pain and processing, but now there is more room for light.
By Marco Aarden
For this album, Dotan took time to travel and spend time with friends and loved ones, which helped him find the creative spark for his new musical era. He emphasizes that he only wants to make music when there’s genuine inspiration, not out of obligation.
During the writing process, Dotan developed a healthier relationship with music. He discovered that music can be bright and sunny, celebrating life. This realization is at the heart of A Little Light in the Dark, an album influenced by folk and roots, telling stories of happier and lighter chapters in his life. Dotan produced the album entirely on his own, giving it a deeply personal character.
The Dark Side of Dotan
The album’s title comes from a line in the song “Carry You.” It speaks to the strength of support within a relationship — wanting to protect someone from life’s darker sides. Dotan explains that sharing the world’s burdens with someone else can make them easier to bear.
The album features 12 songs, including previously released singles “Diamonds in My Chest” and “Louder,” the latter of which recently climbed to the top of the Italian charts. A standout track on the album is “No Kissing on a Sunday,” which tells the story of Dotan’s first visit to his partner’s conservative family in North Carolina and his eventual acceptance by Grant’s father.
A Little Light in the Dark is available on CD, vinyl, and digitally, followed by a European tour that kicked off on October 29.
