Blaudzun returns with new album Latter Days

Soundz rating: 8.5/10

Blaudzun, the musical alter ego of Johannes Sigmond, has become a well-established name in the Dutch music scene. With a career spanning over 15 years filled with highlights—including gold records, prestigious awards, and iconic tracks like “Promises Of No Man’s Land,” “Real Hero,” and “Elephants”—he has proven himself as a unique voice in the alternative rock scene. In addition to numerous successful club tours and performances at major festivals, a book about his life, written by author Ronald Giphart, is also on the horizon.

But first, there’s his long-awaited seventh studio album, Latter Days. This album features eleven new tracks and marks an exciting new chapter in Blaudzun’s musical journey. The first singles, “Dreamers” and “Shades,” were enthusiastically received by both fans and radio stations. His latest single, “Bonfire,” was released in September.

Blaudzun starts exploring

With Latter Days, Blaudzun once again explores new musical paths, thanks in part to his collaboration with Marien Dorleijn of Moss. This partnership allowed Blaudzun to deepen his role in the production process, resulting in an album that feels both personal and timeless. Although the title track was never completed, it still became the heart of the album. According to Blaudzun, the song is about transition and hope, despite its dark undertone.

The single “Bonfire,” characterized by rich strings and an unusually low timbre, deals with the theme of letting go of emotional baggage and fears. “Throw those things off and burn them in a bonfire,” says Blaudzun. This song perfectly captures the melancholy and optimism of the album.

Along with the album release, an extensive club tour is planned for February 2025. Blaudzun is set to perform in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
