he iconic British dance duo Underworld is set to return with their highly anticipated eleventh studio album, Strawberry Hotel, releasing on October 25, 2024. This will be their first full-length album since the groundbreaking Drift project in 2019, where Underworld released new music every week for a year. Fans can now pre-order Strawberry Hotel and stream the first single, “Black Poppies,” on all major platforms.
Strawberry Hotel
Strawberry Hotel takes listeners on a sonic journey through Underworld’s signature soundscapes, blending energetic techno with raw acoustic guitars and mysterious atmospheres. Each track feels like a unique room in this musical hotel, distinct yet unmistakably Underworld. Whether it’s the hypnotic rhythms or euphoric melodies, Rick Smith and Karl Hyde‘s advice remains clear: “Please don’t shuffle.”
The album includes previously released singles such as “and the colour red” and “denver luna,” alongside the newly unveiled “Black Poppies,” a celestial love song that also serves as a tribute to the universe and the transformative power of positive change.
“Black Poppies” is an ambient, beatless track celebrating life, dancing, and the beauty of human connection.

About Underworld
For over three decades, Rick Smith and Karl Hyde have been pioneers in the electronic music scene. They first broke through with their 1994 album dubnobasswithmyheadman. Emerging from the underground techno scene of the ’90s, Underworld experienced massive commercial success in 1996 with their iconic track “Born Slippy (Nuxx),” which gained international fame after being featured in Danny Boyle’s film Trainspotting. The track became a generational anthem, while Underworld continued to push musical boundaries over the ensuing decades.
The duo has sold millions of albums and performed at the world’s biggest venues, all while staying true to their roots by collaborating with the art world through performances and exhibitions in galleries and unique spaces. The Netherlands has played a key role in their career, with notable performances such as their experimental Drift show at Marktkantine in 2019 and their largest-ever Dutch show at the Ziggo Dome.
Whether headlining massive festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lowlands, or performing in intimate underground clubs, warehouse parties, and art galleries, Underworld remains one of the few acts capable of captivating audiences in any setting. They have played at unique venues, including the tunnel beneath the Rijksmuseum and, more recently, Amsterdam’s iconic Gashouder, where they sold out four consecutive nights.
