Her previous album “Bell Bottom Country” was awarded a Grammy for best Country album this year. So expectations are high with the release of “Whirlwind”. With seven number 1 songs so far, Wilson has become the most important female artist with the most number 1 songs this decade, together with two Grammy nominations, nine ACM awards, seven CMA awards and as an official member of the Grand Ole Opry.

If you grow up with music from Glen Campbell, Hank Williams, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Buck Owens and your grandfather takes you to bluegrass festivals, then it is not surprising that you are a fan of pure country & western music. Lainey Wilson clearly shows that. She makes traditional country music with a modern twist.
Also on this fifth studio album. With “Keep Up With Jones” she immediately sets the tone. It immediately makes you curious about the rest. You can hear that she can tell beautiful stories not only on stage in several tracks. Unvarnished opinions, sometimes vulnerable, humble or subtle, but always considered and sincere. It is music with a message.
And she is right with “Country Is Cool Again”. It has not been an old-fashioned music genre for a long time. Certainly not if you have seen one of Lainey’s energetic live shows. This year she was in the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
Of course the music is also about life in the countryside “Counting Chickens”, about drinks “Whiskey Colored Crayon” and “Bar In Baton Rouge” and about love “Broken Hearts Still Beat”. With “Ring Finger” she also shows some of her poppy side. Although the chorus is pure Country again. This album also contains a duet, “Good Horses”, together with Miranda Lambert.
